#9 Explore Flickr

I never really liked flickr, I always preferred photobucket much more. On that note, I havent been to photobucket in quite some time. If I need to find an image I typically start with google image. If I dont see what I'm looking for then I venture to photobuket. I suppose I can add flikr to the list of image searching.

A few years back Ringo Starr had an art exhibit in Riverhead. Included at the exhibit were rare photos of the Beatles and art work by John, George, Paul and Ringo himself. I remember seeing a photo of the boys and their meeting with the champ, Cassius Clay. If I had enough dough, I wouldve bought the print because I loved it so much. Needless to say, the only way I'll be admiring that photo is though the web.

#8 - Find a video on YouTube

According to my profile, I have been a member of youtube since January 4, 2006. Youtube seems to provide me with many many laughs. The things that people come up with just amazes me. I especially love when I find something funny that may not have meant to be funny. Oooo I also love when I find video footage of concerts that I've been too. Its like reliving the moment!

Anyway, aside from funny vids and concerts, there are other amazing gems on youtube, which include people who are true gems. Not everyone in this world is as bad as some seem to think.



I found this video about 2 years ago and had put it in my favorites. Theres something about it, how could it not make you smile?!

There once was a time when youtube wasnt covered in ads and for that I dislike how the site is now plastered in ads and celebs. Youtube wouldnt exist if it werent for every day people shooting and uploading their own vids and then giving others feedback.

I think youtube would be a great tool for the library to use in promoting programs. If vids are shot and then embedded to the librarys home site, facebook, and myspace account it may entice more people to sign up for and participate in the progams that the library has to offer.

#7 The Power of Library Thing

LibraryThing is a great tool for keeping track of books you have read in the past, and discovering new books based on others tags. Creating an account was quite simple, seeing as you only had to create a user name and password then KABLAMO, you can instantly track books that you've read.

I must say that I like the tag cloud that is derived by others on LibraryThing and is now a part of our catalog system. Its just another approach in finding a book that you may or may not be interested in.

#6 Learn about tagging and discover Delicious

Delicious, not sure how I feel about this site. Im not really a fan of the layout and whatnot, but if I play around with it a little more I just may become a fan. I can see its effectiveness in that you can access your bookmarks from any computer that you go onto. Thats a great feature, because nothing is more frustrating than trying to find something online that you need to access but cant quite remember.

I like that not only can you tag, or type in tags that you may be interested in, but that some people actually give little descriptions of the site that they are bookmarking. Reading someones description may be beneficial in finding a site of interest.

I use google right now whenever I need to find something on the inteweb. Now though, I have another option when google search fails me.

#5 Myspace & Facebook

Myspace and facebook.

I had joined myspace in early '04. It wasnt until after I had graduated H.S and went to college, Fall '04, that myspace became a massive social network. Everyone was then on myspace, it was madness! I remember before I went away to school I had went onto myspace to see if my future roommates were on there. Needless to say, it wasnt until they met me that they learned about myspace. Now I think it may have been spring '05, my second semester as a freshman, when facebook hit the internet. It was all the rage on campus. Professors were even talking about it. Now at that point, facebook was strictly for those in college, I think alum were allowed to join the site as well, as long as they had an email account with the school that they had attended. Myspace at that point was still far more popular because it was more accessible. Now thats all changed!

Despite the fact that I still have an account with both sites, I rarely go on to either of them. I should just delete the accounts, but I cant. I once deleted my myspace but then a few months later started up a new account. I mean, they are both great sites for keeping up with those from the past. Not really into the whole adding strangers aspect though, I think its weird.

It seems like the facebook account that the library has is much more popular than the myspace account. Currently the facebook account has 120 fans as opposed to the myspace account which has 14 friends. Oh and look at that, the myspace teen account has 13 friends. FACEBOOK WINS! Both pages offer the same links for the library but, the myspace page is just much more.......fun looking. I suppose though that glitz, glamour and graphics arent everything. Facebook has a much more cleaner looking page and seems to appeal more to people nowadays.

Social networking is so popular because the internet is now a part of everyones lives. In a sense, it is truly mind blowing.

#4 Twittering & Microblogging

I had no idea what twitter was until Beth gave her presentation. I was somewhat interested in it, so I had decided to check it out myself before even embarking on the web 2.0 journey. I found it to be quite confusing at first. Creating an account was a task in itself. I didnt find it easy to navigate at all and gave up soon after some tweets. Recently I did discover some other 'tweeters,' is that even the term for those who tweet on twitter? hah. Anyway, its a riot, I get many laughs out of what others tweet about and for that I now appreciate twitter.

Blogging it out

Whew, I finally created a blog for this here program. I decided that since a snow day was bestowed upon us, I would get started on MMSCL web 2.0. I mean, if it werent for the snow, I would be working right now, so web 2.0 it is!
