I think Jim Morrison sang a song where he said 'this is the end...' uh, good ol' Jim Morrison. Anyway, web 2.0 was a fun little activity! I have learned a whole lot about the internet! I am now more aware of different features that are 'web 2.0'-ish that are on websites that I access.

#16 Craigslist: A Guide to Online Classifieds
Craigslist was always there to save me when ebay failed me. There was a time when I had tickets for 2 different bands on the same night. I obvioulsy couldnt go to both shows so I had to sell tickets to one. Craigslist was there for me! I was able to sell my tickets. I also have used craigslist to buy tickets.
I'm thinking about going to a Mets game, lets see:

#15 Google Docs: The End of Microsoft Office?
I just wrote an entire entry and lost it b/c I had up the cpsd google doc account and it logged me out of my gmail account and everything I wrote is lost, therefore I shall now keep it short and simple.
I am a fan of google docs and use it to keep track of my stocks, via a chart! love it, love it, love it!

#14 What's a Wiki?
Wikipedia is a fabulous! Its great, if I need information fast I usually go there first to see whats up there. I am aware that anyone can edit an article therefore not all information is completely accurate. When I want to know about something I start with wikipedia and then explore further on the web to gather as much information as possible!
If more patrons were aware of wikis they would then be able to look up information for themselves, and then ask a librarian for further assistance. Also, a patron with information about a particular topic would be able to share their knowledge about that topic(s) which would be useful to those searching for information.

#13 Finding new feeds
Seeing as I really dont go online all that often, I ususally dont just stumble upon websites that I am not already familiar with. Sometimes I'll read about a website and by the time I get to the computer if I still remember I'll check it out. Anyway, the websites that I usually go to have the RSS feeds linking articles to anywhere I want to link them. http://www.bloglines.com is a neat website. If I want, I can search for new feeds from the past. http://www.technorati.com is something that I may use. When I do have time to play around on the internet I like to read blogs. I just find them to be fascinating! UH OH, i just went to http://www.technorati.com and this popped up:

#12 Discovering feeds on our catalog and website
First off, I LOVE OUR NEW WEBSITE! The layout just works so well and its great for lazy internet users (me) who dont really like to search high and low for something on a website. I like to type something in and BAM--it pops up. With our new website there is just so much that I never really found with out other website. When the website first went up I was able to track my Great Great Grandfathers paperwork, documenting his entry to Ellis Island. I love stuff like that. Now if only I could figure out how my Great Great Grandmothers name was spelt then I would be able to find her. Somewhere along her way to America, her name was changed--I suppose it was too Italian and it needed to be 'americanized'. Loved though that I was able to find out the information that I did find.

It seems as though there is an RSS feed for all of our patrons, whether they are children, teens or adults--from new movies and new books, fiction and non fiction. There is also a feed for adult programs that are coming up. The RSS feeds on our website are excellent for our patrons. Once they get more familiar with our website they will become more curious and click around and discover all of the new materials that will be coming along to our library. They will then be able to put it on hold for themselves, so when its hot off the presses they'll receive their phone from one of the lovely circ girls and be able to pick it up. Amazing that a patron can do so much on their own from home!

#11 What are RSS feed readers?
I think that the whole RSS feed reader is an amazing tool. I really dont go online all that often, but go on often enough to see that some websites have that RSS feed reader. Its quite neat that new stories from other sites can be sent directly to your own homepage. Thats just what I did. I went to http://masticbeach.blogspot.com/ and subscribed. I now have feeds going to my google homepage. The most current feed is: http://masticbeach.blogspot.com/2009/06/shirley-store-owner-helps-robber-only.html What a tale--the area is in the news for something good.
#10 Surfing Suffolk Wave
I think that the suffolk wave website is a great website. I did not wish to download anything to my computer at this time, but am familiar with how the website works. It is a great tool for patrons who may want something right away. Two thumbs up!
